Student Connections
This week we had the absolute pleasure of connecting with students at both of our major educational institutions on the Island!
Tuesday we sat down with the first year Graphic Design students at Holland College (an annual favourite), and on Wednesday we ventured over to sit on a panel for UPEI’s Faculty of Business Marketing Class for the first time!
Holland College Graphic Design Panelists: Duncan Brooks, Ashe Green, Lewis Read, and Bhreagh Krszwda
UPEI Marketing Panelists: Melody Dover or Fresh Media, Mary Whitrow of Kindsight, and Ashe Green of Hijinks with moderator Fahad. (see blow)
There were some seriously thoughtful questions asked both days. We were impressed - new/young local designers are considering their community, thinking about the state of our futures as creatives, and seriously curious. And honestly, being curious will be a superpower their entire career.
We chatted about our fears and potential opportunities in respect to AI, how to manage client expectations, the path to becoming an entrepreneur, available funding on PEI, what inspires us, workplace culture, pricing, how Hijinks came to be, and so much more. We always leave these events fired up and excited for the future.
We love having the opportunity to meet students, chat about the design industry, and remember how unbelievably lucky we are to able to do this work everyday. It’s the absolute best.
In typical “living in the moment” fashion, we didn’t take a single photo of either event 😂. So if you happen to have one, reach out!
